The only trouble they had was making important words bigger, connecting phrases, and revising. I showed them how to make words bigger, type the word a lot, and how to connect words, add a ~ between words. Most students were able to make the more important words larger but only a few were able to connect phrase. I was unable to show them how to revise their poster and told them they needed to reenter their words.
I could also see using Wordle to make theme posters for books, character posters, Social Studies content posters and Science concept posters. Here's a link I created for gravity. I'm not sure how that link works. It doesn't appear you can search for terms. I can't paste a copy of the image either.
I love to use Wordle. This is one of the things I can actually use in my first grade room. We did a really cool project for Father's Day last year. The kids came up with describing words for their dad. Then they put Dad or Daddy or whatever they called their dad in larger. It took several days with first graders. We have limited access to computer lab so the kids came up with words prior to going in the lab and then they inputted and printed. It is a great program!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately with the scarcity of computer time ih the high school we often do not have time to do "fun" things like Wordle. I know you said you have a set amount of computer time a week and you could probably find a way to tie Wordle into a keyboarding exercise which I think I remember you saying was part of what you had to do during that time. I can see how students would enjoy creating something like this.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could have students create a Wordle for the books on your blog?
